I'm almost caught up!!! Yesterday morning I left Snowdonia around 10am, having slept until 9am in my glorious private room! The drive from Wales to the Peak District was mostly highway but in some parts it was stunning countryside, rolling hills and sheep just off the road....In other parts, like Stoke on Trent, it was super dodgey. I had to pull in to get gas and I couldn't get out fast enough. The cashier asked where my accent was from and when I said "I'm American" he moaned and smiled....?? Two hours into my drive I took a detour to go to the Chatsworth House, famously shown in the last Pride and Prejudice movie as Mr. Darcy's house. The House was the main reason I came to the Peak District, it just made the region look so romantic and beautiful. The house was stunning; the interior was extravagant and the gardens were beautiful....but, there was five million people there!!! Every time I tried to get a picture of the grounds I ended up with a picture of a fat grandmother sunbathing or a child running around with no shirt on...I hate pictures with people in them. Also, the back end of the house was under renovation so the it was covered in a giant white tent. Jerks.
Here is a picture of the Chatsworth that I was hoping to see:
And here is the Chatsworth that I actually saw:
People EVERYWHERE!!!
To round out my list of complaints, there were giant yellow ducks everywhere...for Easter? When trying to take a picture nothing says beautiful historical building like a giant neon yellow duck on the head of a 200 year old bust.
I did manage to get a few strategically angled photos without the hoards of people in them, here are some of my favorites:
Mom you should probably stop reading now....
AND...right next to this overly happy, sinfully grinning like he's in on the joke devil bust, was this interesting "sculptural landscaping piece ..."
Sorry Mom.
My face was pretty much the same as the lion's above...

Hi Cyndi,
Once again beautiful pictures except the unmentionable one. I am sorry you don't like people but I'm glad you made the trip. How are you feeling? Are you eating? I know you're going back to London and get to see your host family. That's cool! I hear there's alot of hoopla around the royal wedding.Keep us posted. I love you every minute of the day. Mom
I don't see any of my "Posts"
daddy
Ewww...Mom looked at the phallic boxwood picture.
No new posts.....BOOOOO....
Was the hedge actually supposed to be trimmed to look like something else?!
Jay
Jay,
All of the other bushes like that one in the garden were trimmed similarly but stuck straight up and didn't have the brown bit on the end. The gardener must have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy...much like me.
